Kindergarten Update

It has been 6 weeks of kindergarten and we are blown away by how much Amelia is learning. She is reading and writing short sentences already! 

She is so smart and loves showing off what she has learned to anyone who will listen. I've also caught her playing school with Reagan, and it cracks me up to hear the things she says when she pretends to be the teacher. For one example, she will tell Reagan "Sedete everyone! It's time to sedete." And if you don't speak Latin, then you might not know that "sedete" is Latin for "sit". That's right, my girl is learning Latin. I told Chris that she is definitely going to be smarter than either one of us and his response was "well isn't that the goal of every parent?" :) 

In addition to reading and learning Latin, Amelia loves hearing Bible stories each week and memorizing the memory verse. I love hearing her version of the story she heard at school. She gets so excited learning about how great our God is! I also love to hear her teach Reagan about it. "Reagan, did you know that God made you special and He loves you so much?"

She is also sharpening her math skills by not only practicing writing the numbers and learning how to spell the number words, but she completes timed worksheets where she has to answer number questions as quickly as she can. The idea is to refine her quick recall skills in basic math (which number comes after 6? etc.) so that when they move to learning how to add and subtract in a few months, it will be easier for her to learn. 

Art and music are some of Amelia's favorite subjects. She's always loved coloring and painting, but she is also learning about famous artists like Van Gogh and famous composers like Beethoven. 

I am so glad we decided to send Amelia to this school this year. She may not stay in private school forever, but we have no doubt she is receiving an excellent foundation right now. It's a little nerve-racking to send her still in the time of COVID-19, but so far it seems that the school is taking every precaution necessary to keep the kids safe. 

Won't we all be so glad when things go back to normal though?!
