All during December, we had a special visitor from the North Pole staying with us -- Buddy the Elf! We had so much fun with him all month long and can't wait for him to return next year!
Even though we didn't get to see any family this year (except for Nana and Papaw who are the only people in our "COVID bubble"), we still had a lovely Christmas. It was low key and relaxed and we were able to focus on spending time together as a family on Christmas morning instead of rushing around trying to get everything together and then driving for hours on Christmas day. I may have to recommend a permanent change for how we do Christmas from now on!
We woke up to a beautiful snow on Christmas day! Reagan and I were up before Chris and Amelia so I just drank my coffee and watched the snow fall out the window. It was quite magical sitting next to the warm glow of the Christmas tree with all of the presents that Santa had laid out just waiting for Amelia to burst into the living room and exclaim that Santa had come! Once Amelia was up, we dove head first into the stockings and presents and it was a blur of bows and paper and pink toys. The girls played for a while and then we all slowly started getting ready to head over to Nana and Papaw's house.
Nana prepared a wonderful Christmas feast - turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, dressing, corn, broccoli casserole, green beans, and many more things that I can't even remember. It was delicious! After lunch, Reagan needed a nap before we dove into Christmas presents round 2! Amelia and Reagan got so much stuff, I don't even know where we are going to store everything. Our basement now looks like a Toys R Us exploded. We spent the night at Nana and Papaw's house and then spent the next day there eating and playing with new toys before heading back home that night.
The rest of Christmas break has been spent trying to organize the chaos and playing with all of the new fun stuff. For New Year's Eve, we all took a 2 hour nap from 9:30-11:30 and then got up to watch the ball drop. Exciting stuff! Happy holidays and good riddance to 2020!
