Beth and Ryder drove up bright and early on Saturday to hang out with us & it was oh so much fun. As usual, Amelia was a little timid at first, but it really didn't take her too long to warm up. Especially with her silly cousin Ryder.
The four of us went to an early lunch at one of my local favorite places, Cafe Classico. Ryder was sold on the idea when I told him we were getting pizza AND fries.
By the time we finished lunch, Amelia had finally warmed up to her Aunt B so they got in some good quality hugs and snuggles and hand holding.
I love seeing them together. Amelia doesn't realize it yet but she is going to absolutely adore her Aunt B once she realizes how cool and special she is.
After lunch we stopped by Toys R Us, because where else would we go when it's raining and there are kids that need entertaining? During our drive there, we tried to prank call both Mom and Nana but neither of them answered their phones. Ryder was wanting to say, "Will you accept a collect call from JO MAMA?!" Not sure where he learned this, but every time he said it, we cracked up.
Toys R Us was a hit with both of the kids. Ryder got a brand new game that he was super excited about and Amelia (who had actually never been to Toys R Us except for one time when she was little bitty) was totally overwhelmed at all of the toys. It was so fun to watch her run from toy to toy and do her cute little laugh and jump up and down!
Amelia was on the brink of meltdown mode because she hadn't napped all day, so we took a few selfies, got lots of hugs and kisses, and said our goodbyes. It was so nice to spend a little time with 2 of my favorite people in the world.
The rest of the day was spent lounging while Amelia took a 2 and half hour nap and me and Chris binge watched episodes of New Girl. Once she woke up, I headed out to pick us up some dinner and we just continued our night of laziness and binge watching. Amelia didn't mind because she sat in my lap and watched Youtube Elmo videos. She is so smart, it is amazing how quickly she has learned how to turn on Youtube and then flip through videos all on her own!
Sunday we had to get up early and get ready to drive over to Shelby County for our cousin Liam's first birthday party. He's a little doll baby!
There were lots of kids there and Amelia worked up the courage to walk over and try to play with some of Liam's toys with the other kids without the help of any of us adults. We stood back and let her step out of her comfort zone all on her own.
You could tell she was nervous because she was fiddling her hands back and forth and even eventually shoved both of them in her mouth while taking teeny tiny steps towards the kids. It was all I could do not to run over and help her, but I knew that it was one of those moments where I needed to let her spread her wings a little bit. Seriously, parenting is hard.
After the party, we picked up a pizza and some smoothies, came home so Amelia could nap, watched a couple more New Girl episodes, and then it was time for our usual Sunday evening hustle of grocery shopping and getting ready for the week ahead.
It was a fun but very busy weekend & I'm looking forward to having the extra day off for Memorial Day soon - this tired Mama needs a day to relax!
