Alicia is Going to Haiti

A few months ago, Alicia read the book Radical by David Platt. This book challenged her in a number of ways, but one of the major ways it challenged her was to go on a mission trip. Her church has scheduled two mission trips -- one to Africa and one to Haiti.

She was telling me all about this one evening while we were sitting at the First Baptist church in Bowling Green waiting for author, Karen Kingsbury, to speak at a book signing event.

Alicia was telling me how she was having trouble deciding which mission trip she should go on. She said she had prayed and prayed about it, and she had still not heard God's answer for her. My advice to her was to keep praying, reading God's Word,  and to seek godly council from others who had been on mission trips. I told her that unfortunately, God usually doesn't send down lightening bolt answers for us.

It was about 3 seconds later that God sent down a lightening bolt. (Thanks for keeping me in check, Big Guy.)

Karen Kingsbury came on the stage and started telling us about her family. She has six children....three of which were adopted from HAITI. You can read about Karen's adoption story here.

Needless to say, Alicia immediately felt the lightening bolt in her heart and has been called to a mission trip in Haiti.  (Also, needless to say, Alicia thoroughly enjoyed throwing that lightening bolt in my face after I had just said that never happens!) She will be traveling with a group of 20 people from Franklin First Baptist to Bon Respos (right outside Port au Prince) where they will be continuing the construction on an orphanage for 30 kids (ages baby to 17 who currently live in tents after the earthquake).

The men will be doing most of the construction and the ladies in the group are going to do a VBS with the kids. They speak some English, so that might be a little challenging!

So since she is probably too modest to do a blog post herself & because I am so incredibly proud of her for answering God's call to the mission field, I'm asking everyone to give some prayer, thought, and consideration to donating to her cause. She has to raise $1,000 by November 30th (the trip is in January).
